Whitehern

Whitehern is an historic house and national garden site and It is located in Hamilton, Ontario. It is one of the best examples of an intact historical home in Canada. Who lived there? A family with the last name McQuesten lived in the Whitehern hours in the 1850’s and stayed there until 1968. Why is this historical house so important to the city of Hamilton? Well, there aren’t many historical homes left in Hamilton from the 1800’s. For this reason it has become a museum and the contents and belongings that were left inside have been donated to the city of Hamilton over time. There are objects and decorations from different time periods including Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian. It is the perfect place for interior designers to go to find inspiration for traditional design ideas.

This house is more than just a boring old house. It is actually quite beautiful with a horseshoe shaped driveway surrounding a lovely and well-kept garden. The house itself is two stories tall and on either side there are full-grown trees as one would expect to see on preserved land. There are wide and tall steps leading up to the heavy front door that will make you imagine the many times the McQueston family had run up and down them.

The best time of the year to visit the Whirehern historical house is in the spring or summer when everything is green and the weather is warm. On Wednesdays at Whirehern you can bring your lunch and enjoy it in a picnic-like fashion on the lawn beside the garden. Sometimes there are tables with umbrellas set up as well and the museum offers all-you-can-drink tea or lemonade while you relax. This museum is all about appreciate of our history in the City of Hamilton and the focus is on serene reflection either with yourself or with friends and family. Need a place to escape the business of your daily life? The Whirehern Museum is the place for you.

Aside from the usual events that take place at the Whitehern Museum are the opportunities for you to book your own social event. The museum is known for booking weddings, birthday parties, field trips, group tours, corporate events, and other various social gatherings. The museum has designated party rooms where you can eat and drink. The rooms must be booked ahead of time so if you are interesting in booking an event we suggest calling the Whitehern house sooner rather than later. We’re sure your party will be much different than how the McQueston family would have partied back in the 1800’s, but you could created an historical theme for your party to get your group in the right mood for an historical adventure.
